Janette Webb is Professor of Sociology of Organisations. She is PI of the multi-disciplinary Heat and the City project (RCUK Energy), studying how city-scale communities can catalyse change to sustainable heating. Heat and the City and IDEAL complement each other at the household level, where insight is needed into creating active energy use. Heat and the City policy recommendations are contributing to UK competitiveness, through innovation in energy infrastructure via a network of 20 local authorities and Scottish Government District Heating initiatives, and to improving the quality of life through access to affordable warmth. Professor Webb has relevant expertise in research design for analysis of social practices and behaviour, and has been a non-executive director of NHS Health Scotland (2003-11).
