Pilot and Future work

As well as working on publications for the IDEAL and BIGSMALL projects, we are currently exploring and piloting work in several related areas:
  • Over 150 homes are still involved in the second phase of the IDEAL energy project and we continue to develop and evaluate the effects of new energy feedback methods.
  • We are exploring opportunities to develop and evaluate energy feedback methods for UK households with smart meters.
  • We are piloting smart heating control systems to find the optimal balance between lowering energy use and maintaining occupant comfort and control.
  • We are interested in applying wireless sensor, machine learning, feedback and automation approaches to energy-related societal challenges including: identifying vulnerable home occupants and potential fuel poverty; incorporating more effective storage and automation technologies in homes; and adapting technology and techniques to address the different energy demand challenges in lower income countries, particularly in Latin America.
